Founded in 1986, Studio E Architects is a fifteen-person collaborative based in San Diego, California. The firm works throughout the Southwestern United States and has built a varied body of work ranging from private residences to affordable housing, mixed-use, civic, and urban planning projects. The firm has received numerous design awards, including three National American Institute of Architects Honor Awards. The California Council of the American Institute of Architects named Studio E one of California's Emerging Talents in 1999. Studio E's collaborative approach extends to its successful use of client and community workshops in the design process. The work of the office is noted for its understanding of place, its authenticity and its inventive optimism.

Nestor+Gaffney Architecture LLP (NGA) was formed in May of 1999. After a long association as Partners of the firm of McLarand, Vasquez & Partners, Ron Nestor AIA and Steve Gaffney AIA left to pursue their own professional interests and objectives. Under their collective experience with MV&P, totaling 26 years, they successfully led the design and production teams of the 100-person firm in a wide variety of award-winning projects. Since the founding of NGA, their portfolio of major projects continues to grow and expand, including the creation of two subsidiary companies: NGA Nevada LLC and NGA Hawaii LLP.

Walter Hood is the Principal of Hood Design in Oakland, California and Chair of the Landscape Architecture Department at the University of California at Berkeley. His designs have been praised for their use of community concerns as a creative departure for producing powerful new urban landscapes. His projects include Lafayette Park and Courtland Creek, highly contested public open spaces in Oakland's socio-political landscape.
